What struck us wasn't just the financial loss. It was the helplessness. Sitting in Toronto or Dubai or London, trying to get answers over WhatsApp calls at odd hours, forwarding documents they didn't fully understand, never really knowing if things were moving or if they were just being managed with reassurances.
The problem was never that NRIs made bad decisions. They're some of the sharpest, most hardworking people out there. The problem was that they had no one trustworthy on the ground. And no one picking up the phone at 10 PM India time when someone in Canada had a simple question about their property.
Everyone was happy to take the NRI's money. No one was willing to genuinely protect the NRI's interest.
